Behavioral Health Technician

General Summary: The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) will provide one-on-one interventions to a child or adolescent across recommended environments (i.e., home, school, community) when the behavior without this intervention would require a more restrictive treatment, residential, or educational setting.

Specific BHT services include the following: crisis intervention techniques, behavior modification interventions, implementing reinforcements, emotional support, time structuring activities, reinforcement and consequence strategies, and psychosocial rehabilitative activities as prescribed in the treatment plan or behavior plan designed by the qualified clinician.

Mission Accountability: Behavioral Health Technicians at Therapeutic Behavioral Health Services, Inc. (TBHS) will continually strive to meet the excellence in standards of Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) by assisting to improve the quality of life of individuals and families in a caring and compassionate manner.

Supervision: The BHT will report directly to the Administrative Director for non-clinical supervision and program functions. The BHT will report to the Clinical Director, Mobile Therapist, or Behavior Consultant regarding the provision of clinical services.
Individual and Group Supervision will be provided by an individual employed by TBHS in accordance with Pennsylvania Regulations for the Provision of Intensive Behavioral Health Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
o Implement treatment plan.
o Provide written documentation of therapeutic progress.
o Collaborate and consult with other members of the treatment team, professionals, or other significant individuals working with the child/adolescent and family.
o Data collection with the member, family, or other systems.
o Observation of the member with the team member present.
o Recognize antecedents to behavior.
o Participate in required trainings.
o Participate in staff supervisions.
o Adhere to monthly prescriptions of clients.
o Accurately represent services and Therapeutic Behavioral Health Services, Inc.
o Follow the Corporate and Compliance Plan.
o Follow APA (American Psychological Association) ethics code.

Minimum Education, Credentials, and Experience:
o Education and Background should include one of the following:
– Certification as a BCaBA, RBT, BCAT, or a behavior health certification or behavior analysis certification from an organization that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute.
– A high school diploma or the equivalent of a high school diploma and have completed a 40-hour training covering the RBT Task List as evidenced by a certification that includes the name of the responsible trainer, who is certified as a BCBA or BCaBA.
– Or have a minimum of 2 years of experience in the provision of behavioral health services.
o Must have Act 33 clearances: FBI, Child Abuse, and State.
o Must have a valid driver’s license with independent transportation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
o Knowledge of Functional Behavioral Assessments.
o Knowledge of positive behavior interventions and supports.
o Knowledge of mental illness and the ability to implement interventions (i.e., individual and family) to support improvements in symptoms and functioning.
o Ability to collect and analyze data.
o Ability to build healthy relationships (i.e., therapeutic and professional), as well as to function in a team environment.
o Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards, as well as to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
o Ability to read, write, and communicate using the English Language.
o May require prolonged sitting (i.e., sometimes on the floor) or standing and frequent use of the telephone or computer.
o Requires sufficient physical capacity to perform interventions through SafetyCare.

Work Schedule:
o Hours and schedules are variable and are determined on an as-needed basis by client, team, and family.
o Schedules may be determined up to six months in advance.
o Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the individual and agency.

Working Conditions:
o Interventions are offered in the client’s home, school, and/or community settings.
o Requires working with children with moderate to severe emotional or behavioral concerns.
o The clients may become aggressive and require crisis intervention.
o Requires working with children, which could require sitting on the floor.
